Shift Core 1.0.3 — App Lock, Barcode Scanning, and Shift Notes
This update focuses on two things field crews have been asking for: keeping data secure without adding friction, and cutting a few seconds off the parts of the job that happen dozens of times a day.
App Lock with On-Device Encryption
Your phone’s data is now something you can lock behind your fingerprint, face, or a PIN — right from Settings → App Lock. Turn it on, and your entire local database is encrypted using AES-256, the same standard used to protect financial and government data.
Biometric unlock for daily use. Once set up, unlocking is just a fingerprint or face scan — no need to retype anything.
A passphrase, not a device-only key. Your encryption key is derived from a passphrase you choose. That’s what makes it possible to move your data to a new phone — or to the upcoming Windows companion app — by entering that passphrase once during restore.
Auto-relock. Set the app to lock itself after 1, 5, 15, or 30 minutes in the background, so a phone left on a truck seat isn’t an open door.
Shift Core has no servers and no accounts — that’s the whole point of an offline app. There is no “forgot password” flow. If you set a passphrase, write it down somewhere safe.
Barcode & QR Scanning for Work Orders
Typing a 12-digit work order number by hand, twice a day, every day, adds up. Now there’s a scan icon right on the WO# field — tap it, point your camera at the barcode or QR code on the work order, and the number fills in instantly. Supports Code 128, Code 39, QR, and most other common formats.
Shift Notes
Every task already had its own notes field, but sometimes you need to leave a note about the whole shift — a heads-up for the next tech, a summary for a supervisor, context that doesn’t belong to any single task. Tap the note icon on the active shift banner to add one, and it’ll print at the top of your PDF report automatically.
Exit Confirmation
A small one, but a real annoyance fixed: pressing back on the home screen used to close the app instantly with zero warning. Now you’ll get a quick “Exit Shift Core?” confirmation first.

Privacy notice. A clearer, more accurate notice on first launch — Shift Core has never collected analytics or sent data anywhere, and now the app says so explicitly, with a link to our full privacy policy.
Stability improvements. Assorted fixes under the hood.
No account, no cloud, no subscription — your data stays on your device unless you choose to export or share it.
