Shift Core
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about using Shift Core.
Getting Started
Shift Core is a mobile application for field workers and site supervisors to log tasks, track time, capture photos, and generate PDF shift reports — all without an internet connection.
Shift Core is available on Android. A desktop version for Windows is also available. iOS support is planned for a future release.
No. Shift Core is a one-time purchase — no subscriptions, no recurring fees. Visit the Google Play listing for current pricing.
Data & Privacy
No. All data is stored exclusively on your device. Shift Core does not transmit any information to external servers, and no account or internet connection is required.
Without a backup, data cannot be recovered. We strongly recommend running a full export regularly via Settings → Full Data Export and saving the file to a secure location.
Shift Core automatically creates a backup each time you end a shift. You can also create a full backup at any time from Settings → Full Data Export, which packages everything into a ZIP file you can transfer to a computer or storage service of your choice.
Transfer your backup file to your new device, then open Shift Core and go to Settings → Backup History → Restore. Select your backup file to begin the restore process.
Shifts & Tasks
Tap the Start Shift button on the home screen. The app begins recording your shift immediately — no additional setup required.
Yes. Tap the + button on the Active Shift screen at any time to add a new task. Each task supports a description, location, status, photos, and notes.
Yes. You can attach photos to any task directly from your device’s camera or photo library. Photos can optionally be included in the generated PDF report.
Each task can be marked Pass, Fail, or Retest to reflect an inspection or job outcome. These statuses are carried through to the PDF report, providing a clear and auditable record for each item logged.
Reports
Tap End Shift, then select End & Generate Report. You can choose whether to include photos before confirming. The report is generated immediately and saved to your device.
Reports are saved to the app’s local documents folder in a subfolder named “reports”. You can open or share them directly from the Report Ready dialog, or browse to them using your device’s file manager.
Yes. After generating a report, tap Share in the Report Ready dialog to open your device’s share sheet. From there you can send the PDF via email, messaging, or any compatible app.
Yes. Go to Settings → PDF Settings to upload your logo and select an accent colour. These are applied to every report generated from your device.
Yes. Signature capture can be enabled in Settings. When configured, a signature is collected at the time of shift end and embedded in the PDF report.
History & Archive
Completed shifts appear in the Shift History screen, accessible from the home screen. Each shift lists its tasks, duration, and status, with options to generate or share a report.
In Shift History, long-press a shift to access delete options. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone, so confirm you no longer need the data before proceeding.
History is your active working record of completed shifts. Archive is a separate store for shifts you want to retain for reference but remove from your main History view. Archived shifts can be restored to History or permanently deleted at any time.
Troubleshooting
Ensure a PDF viewer is installed on your device. Tap Share from the Report Ready dialog to open the file with your preferred app. If the problem persists, installing or reinstalling a PDF viewer such as Adobe Acrobat typically resolves it.
Go to Settings → Full Data Export. This creates a single ZIP file containing all shifts, tasks, photos, and backups, which you can save to any external location.
